Gelatin Protein Sources In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Gelatin Protein Sources are food items with strong nutritional and medicinal histories. Most people would not believe the items which fall under this description. Fungus from various trees, the paws of bears are common, sea cucumbers and various nests of birds, duck webs and even shark fins - to name a few. After milleniums of trial and error the results have proven that eating bones, sinews and such gave the Chinese very strong bones and made them less susceptible to skeletal injury. It is little wonder that young health conscious Chinese think of these foods as delicacies and eat them on a regular basis. High protein gelatin is a true staple in long term Chinese Medicine and health. The thin shaped needles of the shark fin are gelatin. The sea cucumber is eaten as a whole and does not have much taste associated with it - but it is jelly-like. The actual pad of the bear paw is filled with gelatiin and a high source for protein gelatin. Eating birdf's nests does not seem very appealing. However, the cliff-swallows' nest are made from fluids from their mouth, and sea moss and feathers make up the interior of the nest. Daredevil type people acquired these nests from Malacca, Sumatra and even Java cliffs. A broth made from these nests is common and easy to metabolize. Often it is taken to assist in illness recovery. Neddless to say, purchasing bird's nests costs a small fortune. As noted, only animals have been discussed. Tree fungus is a different matter altogether. Some trees produce a vegetable protein, and there is no fat! These fluids help in healing physical injuries and to boost energy. Typically they are dried using a variety of methods and stored for years at room temperature. When needed they are simply soaked and cleaned to re-soften them and eaten. Most Westerners would not think of eating the bones and sinews of various animals, or the secretions from trees. But nature has a way of providing very unique answers to questions we may have about health. Western customs and traditions may be different than other cultures, but more often than not, non-Western methods have a long and positive history of successful applications. Only now are we learning that a viable alternative to health care may be as close as a another culture. It is truly worth having an open mind about. Shen Nong tasted 100 herbs to tell their ingredients - hunger allying, health protecting, and disease curing. The basic principle of Chinese medicine is harmonization - a proper mixture of ingredients. The essence of Chinese food is synthesis, the artistics view of the Chinese nation and its philosophy. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Next Time Next time we'll look at why "Exotic Chinese Dishes " as a primary focus in Chinese Medicine and diet. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
